Recently, it was disclosed that Greece has allocated nearly $400 million to procure Spike anti-tank missiles, which includes Orbiter 3 drones as well.
Here’s What We Know: The agreement was signed by Aristeidis Alexopoulos, the Chief of Greece’s General Directorate of Defence Investment and Armaments, and Eyal Zamir, the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defence. The deal is valued at $403 million.
Orbiter 3 is a creation of Aeronautics, a subsidiary of Rafael. Its purpose is to identify targets that can be eliminated by Spike anti-tank missiles. This drone can detect the type of the target besides locating them.
The drone has a weight of 32 kg and can operate for up to six hours in the air. Orbiter 3 is suitable for various operations including surveillance, reconnaissance, and observation. The exact number of drones that Greece will obtain as part of the $403 million contract is still unclear.
Orbiter 3 does not require a runway for launching, and during the flight, it can navigate even in areas without GPS signals.
