According to a report from UK intelligence, the Russian military has lost over 10,000 armored vehicles since invading Ukraine.
Open-source intelligence tracker Oryx confirmed that the losses included approximately 1,900 tanks, 3,500 armored vehicles, and over 2,400 supply and logistics vehicles, as well as dozens of high-tech radars, command vehicles, and 78 combat jets.
The report stated that these vehicles were either damaged, abandoned, destroyed, or captured in Ukraine, which is considered a significant setback for Moscow and a significant advantage for Kyiv on the battlefield. James Marques, a security analyst at GlobalData, said that in addition to the high number of losses, the Russian army was forced to withdraw equipment from old stocks, including T-55 tanks that started production in the late 1940s.
Despite its efforts, the UK intel report noted that Moscow’s campaign has resulted in “little strategic gain” in Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin is now facing difficulties in mobilizing the defense industry to resupply his troops with more weapons and equipment due to Western sanctions, as per the report.
According to the US Defense Intelligence Agency, as of this month, there have been 223,000 and 131,000 total casualties in Russia and Ukraine, respectively.
