At a military technology convention in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Embraer presented its A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft with a NATO configuration. The upgraded jet, known as the A-29N, comes equipped with the features necessary for NATO deployments, including single-pilot operation and data link capabilities.
In addition, the training devices associated with the aircraft were improved for Joint Attack Controller Training missions and other military training purposes that use virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality techniques.
“This is a new chapter in the operational life of the A-29 Super Tucano,” remarked Embraer Defense & Security CEO and President Bosco da Costa Jr. “We see numerous opportunities for the A-29N at this time. This version introduces particular aircraft capabilities that several European countries have expressed interest in.”
The A-29 has been delivered worldwide, with over 260 units to date. It is used by over 15 international defense organizations, including the US Air Force. The aircraft is utilized for various military missions such as counterinsurgency, aerial surveillance, and threat engagements. Its durable design allows for operations from unpaved runways and remote airfields with minimal support, making it highly available and cost-effective. Standard A-29 modules include a laser target tracker, electro-optical-infrared system, night vision goggles, and secure voice communications.
“The A-29 Super Tucano represents the gold standard in its field, combining superior aircraft performance with 21st-century ωeapons, integrated sensors, and surveillance systems to create a highly influential air power component,” stated the company.
