Ukrainian engineers transformed a captured Russian T-62 tank into an armored recovery vehicle, a crucial asset for military operations.
According to Roman Sinicyn, the Military Coordinator for the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, Ukrainian engineers adapted a seized T-62 medium tank to be used in combat situations for recovering and repairing damaged or immobilized armored vehicles such as tanks and armored personnel carriers.
“The crew of this vehicle is shielded by tank armor. Our experts installed a crane, replaced the turret with an armored “wheelhouse,” and added extra tanks and tools,” stated Sinicyn.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the project’s cost amounted to UAH 1.6 million (equivalent to forty-six thousand dollars), which was raised through a crowdfunding campaign organized by the foundation.
The T-62, originally developed in the 1960s, is a Soviet medium battle tank. Its first prototype was completed in 1959, and it was officially accepted for service in the Soviet Army in 1961.
Due to a shortage of operable modern tanks, the Russian Armed Forces have been deploying aging T-54/55 and T-62 tanks to Ukraine as they rebuild their units for redeployment.
