Russia dispatched a fighter aircraft to accompany a German naval plane over the Baltic Sea, as stated by the Moscow defense ministry on Wednesday.
“In a statement, the ministry revealed that on April 12, 2023, Russian aerial monitoring systems detected an approaching airborne target near the state border of the Russian Federation.”
The ministry further explained that a Su-27 fighter jet was deployed to “identify the airborne target and prevent any violation of the state border.”
“The crew of the Russian fighter jet positively identified the airborne target as a German Navy R-3C Orion base patrol aircraft,” they added.
The ministry emphasized that the aircraft did not cross the border. Furthermore, they stated that the Russian jet conducted its flight “without dangerously approaching” the escorted aircraft.
