Dameп Breaks Ground: Unveiling the Middle East’s Pioneering CSD650 Cutter Sυctioп Dredger

Albwardy Damen recently revealed a Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 650, signifying the first construction of this modular dredger at the yard. Normally focused on ship repair and various vessel types’ construction, the yard also acts as the Damen Service Hub in the area, providing local post-sales assistance. This week, the launch of the CSD650 took place at Albwardy Damen, diversifying their portfolio and expanding their capabilities.

The CSD650 is a standard suction dredger designed for replenishing stock. Typically, these large dredgers are built at the Damen Dredging Equipment yard in Nijkerk, the Netherlands. However, this dredger was constructed in the Middle East to ensure shorter lead times and lower transport costs for the local market. The dredger has been fully equipped and will now undergo a testing program, with delivery scheduled for January 2020.

With a construction weight of 535 tons, the CSD650 has an overall length, including spud carriage, of 61.2m, resulting in an impressive swing width of 63m. The suction dredger features a powerful 700 kW cutter head, designed for dredging at a maximum depth of -18m. It is equipped with an inboard dredge pump located in a separate pump room. The total installed power of the CSD650 is 2,972 kW, and it boasts a high efficiency with a mixture production of approximately 7,000 m3/h.

The construction of the CSD650 at the Albwardy Damen yard is a logical progression as the yard has been building Damen CSD500 for the past 12 years. Additionally, it serves as the Damen Service Hub in the region, resulting in a wealth of knowledge on boosters, DOP dredge pumps, and cutter suction dredgers. All dredgers delivered to customers in the Middle East receive comprehensive after-sales support from the local hub.

Recently, Albwardy Damen completed the construction of two other dredgers, both of the CSD500 type. These dredgers have a maximum dredging depth of -14m and a mixture pumping capacity of 4,000 m3/h. They have undergone thorough testing and are available on location. Customer finance options are available for all dredgers.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Albwardy Damen finished the construction of all dredgers, ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel and stakeholders.
