German defense company Rheinmetall reveals new drone designed to launch smaller drones
Rheinmetall has introduced an unmanned aerial system called the Combat Drone that can launch the kamikaze drones Hero R, made by Israeli firm UVision.
The drone is based on the proven LUNA NG drone, with the ability to fly for 12 hours and communicate with the operator up to 100km away.
The modifications of the drone for launching kamikaze drones are not known at this time, including how it affects the drone’s technical performance.
The Hero R quadcopters are loaded into the inner compartment of the Combat Drone, which can then target the selected object. During a demonstration, the Combat Drone destroyed an indoor vehicle. The LUNA NG is 2.28 meters long and has a wingspan of 4.17 meters and is equipped with a 5 kW engine.
