The Armed Forces of Ukraine have received French AMX-10RC armored vehicles. The Ukrainian Marines have been equipped with the vehicles, according to a report by Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine’s Defense Minister. Reznikov posted a video that showcases the French vehicles and their crews.
The transfer of AMX-10RC vehicles to Ukraine is part of France’s defense assistance program. The armored vehicles are essential to resisting a potential Russian invasion and to liberating Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories. Ukrainian crews have received training to operate the vehicles. They were trained by French instructors at the cavalry school in Saumur. The Minister expressed gratitude to the French side for their support and for providing the armored vehicles.
The transfer of the AMX-10RC to Ukraine was decided by France in early January of this year. The Ministry of Defense of France did not disclose the exact number of vehicles that Ukraine would receive for security reasons. However, according to sources from Army Recognition, Ukraine is expected to receive 30 AMX-10RC vehicles. In mid-March, Sébastien Lecornu, France’s Defense Minister, confirmed that the vehicles had arrived in Ukraine.
Lecornu also noted that this is the first delivery of armored vehicles and that the decision to send a second batch was being considered. The French AMX-10 RC armored vehicles have high mobility due to their wheelbases. The vehicles have a 6×6 wheel arrangement and are equipped with a hydropneumatic suspension system with variable ground clearance and inclination. As a result, the vehicles can effectively camouflage themselves in the terrain.
The vehicles can be used for reconnaissance missions and to provide infantry fire support during combat. They are equipped with a 105/47 F2 MECA 105mm rifled tank gun that can fire APFSDS, HEAT-FS, and high-explosive and fragmentation ammunition.
