According to a UK intelligence report, over 10,000 armored vehicles have been lost by the Russian military since it invaded Ukraine. Oryx, an open-source intelligence tracker, confirmed that 1,900 tanks, 3,500 armored vehicles, and more than 2,400 logistics and supply vehicles have been verified as lost.
Moscow has also lost numerous high-tech radars, command vehicles, and 78 combat jets, which were either destroyed, damaged, abandoned, or captured in Ukraine.
These losses are a significant setback to Russia’s campaign and are expected to provide Kyiv with a significant advantage on the battlefield. James Marques, a GlobalData aerospace, defense, and security analyst, stated that the equipment that Russians are forced to withdraw from old stocks is visibly confirmed, including T-55 tanks that began production in the late 40s being shipped to the front.
In addition to losing thousands of military vehicles, the UK intel noted that Russia has already fired most of its modern cruise missiles, and its efforts have had “little strategic gain” in Ukraine. Furthermore, President Vladimir Putin is reportedly struggling to mobilize the defense industry and resupply his troops with more weapons and equipment. Western sanctions have impeded the nation’s ability to produce cutting-edge military systems for use in the war.
As per the US Defence Intelligence Agency, Russia and Ukraine have suffered a total of 223,000 and 131,000 casualties, respectively, as of this month.
