The US Army has declared that military helicopters and gear from the 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, initiated their arrival at the port of Thessaloniki, Greece on April 17, 2023, as the brigade starts its nine-month rotation to reinforce the Atlantic Resolve in reaction to Russian actions in Ukraine.
As per the Army’s announcement, Atlantic Resolve presents rotational deployments of reliable combat forces to Europe to display support for NATO while enhancing readiness, interoperability, and connections between allied and partner militaries. Lt. Col. Frederick Clapp, the commander of Task Force Brawler, stated, “Our task force has put in tireless effort over the past two years to train and get ready for this deployment.
We are ready to utilize our personnel, equipment, and aircraft to form relationships with our European allies and partners,” emphasizing the importance of their existence in Europe. During the subsequent three weeks, the 4th Battalion will carry out port activities, transport flights to Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania, orientation flights in the nearby zone, establish task force headquarters, and conduct a relief on-site with their counterparts from the 1st Armored Division.
Over the next nine months, over 2,000 soldiers from the 3rd CAB will take part in NATO training events and drills in Romania, Poland, Latvia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Greece. For many soldiers, this will be their initial opportunity to deploy and collaborate with partner nations. “Our team has worked closely with our partners in and around Hunter Army Airfield to become a lethal fighting force, but now is the time to learn to fight with our allies and better each other,” remarked Col. Eric Vanek, 3rd CAB commander, who also stated that Atlantic Resolve is a fantastic training event for their entire brigade to improve interoperability with their NATO allies and other US military organizations.
The 3rd CAB is bringing the Army’s most advanced and lethal multifunctional aviation forces to the theater of operations, including 109 air platforms, such as the AH-64E Apache, UH-60M Blackhawk, CH-47F Chinook, MQ-1C Extended Range Gray Eagle, and RQ-7B Shadow.
